FACE
Facial Sculpting
As we age, we lose fat from our face, especially under the eyes, in the cheeks, and in the pre-jowl regions. As these areas deflate, it makes the face look hollowed, creating shadows where there were none in youth. In addition to the shadows, the volume loss can cause wrinkles to form, especially in the area where dimples usually occur. Facial Sculpting aims to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, remove unwanted fat from certain areas, and give an overall more youthful appearance to the face and neck. Facial Sculpting involves the use of several different techniques including Injectable Fillers, Botox, Fat Transfer, and Facial Liposuction.
Injectable Fillers can temporarily add volume to the skin for a soother, more lifted appearance. Injectable Fillers includes hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvéderm® and Restylane® products, and calcium-based (calcium hydroxylapatite) fillers, such as Radiesse®. These fillers are often used in combination with neurotoxins, like Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, or Juveau®, which relax expression lines and smooth wrinkles.
Patients that have volume loss combined with a loss of skin elasticity and excess stretched out skin, sagging facial features, and neck issues (extra fat under the chin, neck wrinkles, and vertical bands of the neck), may require additional procedures to achieve a more comprehensive rejuvenated appearance. For example, a Liquid Facelift may be combined with a traditional Facelift and Neck Lift or Facial Liposuction. It can also be combined with Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) to rejuvenate the eyes, thereby complimenting the improvements made in the rest of the face. The results of a Liquid Facelift can be further enhanced by incorporating the use of other non-surgical techniques such as good skin care, as with topical skin products (Retin-A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E), microdermabrasion, and facial peels.
Facial Liposuction can be used in combination with a Liquid Facelift or as a stand-alone-procedure. It’s not uncommon for excess fat to accumulate in the chin and jowl area. The additional heaviness in the lower face can counteract a youthful appearance, which unfortunately is not always easily improved with healthy eating and exercise. Facial Liposuction is performed on the delicate area with incisions placed in the mouth or under the chin. A very small cannula is used to suction out the unwanted fat and sculpt the face. When performed alone, facial liposuction can be completed with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. After 1 to 2 weeks, swelling and bruising will subside and patients are left with a firmer lower face and neck.
